NOPE is a nail polish formula that works to detect the presence of drugs commonly used to facilitate date rape that works in conjunction with its social/safety app.

The product is a clear nail polish that, when dipped into a drink, has the ability to detect common date rape drugs . The NOPE polish takes preventative measures while the NOPE app handles post drug detection scenarios.

The NOPE app also features a news feed where you have the ability to explore reports of detection and suspicion. You can either use it to report tampering as well as view at where recent incidences occurred on an interactive map. If you are in need of medical help, the app can connect you with the appropriate hot line, help number or emergency responders.

The original concept was developed by four male N.C. State University students in 2014. Their striking idea to create a nail polish formulated to change color if you dip your finger in a drink spiked with one of the incapacitating drugs, such as GBH, Rohypnol or Xanax received some major media buzz. While some were very supportive, others generated backlash claiming it doesn’t get at the root causes of rape.

To capitalize on this concept and to take better preventative measures, the application that holds equal, if not more, importance to the polish alone was constructed.
